UR MEAN KATHLEEN
Oh Kathleen, why are u so mean?
Co-founded by August Kiss and Katie Kunkel, two high school best friends who grew up talking crap on their peers while crying through their own self loathing, UR MEAN KATHLEEN was born out of a clinical and very dire need to create things so they would stop complaining about the other media they consumed so much, and start believing in themselves as artists and the talent they were blessed with.
UR MEAN KATHLEEN is an NYC based company led by August Kiss Fegley and Katie Kunkel, a duo that has been making theatre since they joined forces in 2016. Our work tackles challenging and diverting narratives putting women at the center. The stories they tell swing big, embracing the full spectrum of genres, from cabaret to burlesque to poetic drama.
In layman’s terms, we produce plays that are sometimes absurd, sometimes surreal, and always a little sexy.

SALOON GIRLS, 2025

SALOON GIRLS is a vaudevillian dark comedy set in a 19th-century brothel in Cripple Creek Colorado, one of the most influential mining towns of the Great American West. The story unfolds in one room—the dressing room—where the painted ladies doll themselves up, debrief their evenings, and scheme to navigate a male-dominated, lawless land. Journey with us to the wild west and learn the bawdy and boisterous stories of these soiled doves, woven in a tapestry of Americana sing alongs and burlesque. @saloongirlsplay
“This vibrant production tackles female agency and sex positivity with equal doses of comedy and showmanship.”
“Saloon Girls does not shrink away from the bawdy and harsh realities of sex work on the frontier.”
“Not a single actor lagged behind in their delivery of believable characters with distinct motivations and personalities.”
“The entire cast attacks their roles with infectious vigor, creating theatre that feels both period-authentic and urgently contemporary.”
“Saloon Girls submerges its audience in the raunchy wild west in a calamitous tale of sisterhood.”
“Saloon Girls tells the important stories of women who have been silenced, shunned and shamed for doing what was demanded of them to survive.”
Support Our Work
Because we keep getting asked the same question, we want to make it very clear to our community - no we are not raising money to support anti-bullying initiatives. We believe in the power bullying has to build character over time, something our human race gravely lacks. We ARE however raising money to produce our work, and are grateful to be fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.
